1 - God's Team Goal is to Live a Holy Life [Holiness]

(A) WE SEEK A HOLY GOD

Reach for the goal of holiness! This Bible study on Living in Spirit & Truth compares God’s people to a team. In this world, teams are formed to compete for a prize or to seek a certain goal. Running teams reach for the finish line. Business teams reach for the buyer’s money. But our common purpose is not to pursue sports or the buyer’s business. Instead, you joined God’s team to pursue a holy God. First and foremost, you have joined God’s team to pursue God. Think about this carefully--the highest prize that our team must seek is Him.

1. God Is Divine Nature

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.” (2 Pe 1:2-4)

When we seek God through the knowledge of Jesus and the promises surrounding Him, then we seek to become partakers, participants, and team members of divine nature. God is divine in His nature. What is divine nature? Above, Peter explained that we can escape the corrupt nature that is in the world by God’s promises in Christ so that we can become partakers of divine nature. So divine nature is not corrupt, defiled, or sinful. Instead, He is pure, undefiled, and sinless or in one word, Holy. Therefore we seek a holy God. We seek holiness.
