1 - The Way Jesus Said You Can Be Saved
In the Bible Study on the Messiah, you looked at Jesus' earthly life and what He taught for you to have eternal life. Now review His teachings on salvation. Know what He taught about it from the beginning of His preaching ministry, during it, and especially at the end it, after He rose from the dead.
(A) AT THE BEGINNING OF HIS MINISTRY
- Soon after John baptized Him, “Jesus began
to preach and say, ‘Repent...’” (Mt 4:17).
- Mark records that Jesus also began to preach
that people were to believe in the Gospel (Mk 1:15).
(B) DURING HIS MINISTRY
Consider more key teachings on salvation.
- The only way for you to have life is through
Him (Jn 14:6).
- The way to life is a narrow way, and few find
it (Mt 7:13, 14).
- It is impossible for man to save himself
without God. Therefore, He taught that you
can only have life by the grace of God (Mt 19:25, 26).
- All people are sinners and must repent. Just
because some sinners suffer in this life
because of their sin, it does not mean that
you are any better than they, you still need to
repent (Lk 13:1-3).
- You must confess His name before men to
have life (Mt 10:32).
- You must be born again to have life (Jn 3:3, 5, 7).
- There is a day of judgment coming, where
only the righteous go to life, not the
unrighteous (Jn 5:29, Mt 25). So you must be
righteous to be saved.
(C) AT THE END OF HIS MINISTRY
It is very important to consider what Jesus taught
after He rose from the dead; in other words, after
He completed the gospel, which is the death,
burial, and resurrection (the gospel is a D.B.R. 1 Cor 15:1, 3, 4).
- “And Jesus came up and spoke to them
[apostles], saying, ‘All authority has been given
to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore
and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and the Son
and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you
always, even to the end of the age.’” (Mt 28:18, 19)
-
“And He said to them [apostles], ‘Go into all the
world and preach the gospel to all creation. He
who has believed and has been baptized
shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved
shall be condemned.’” (Mk 16:15, 16) According to Jesus, who shall be saved? He who has believed the preaching of the gospel and has been baptized. But why do so many teachers get this mixed up?
