4. Follow the Divine Regulations of Christian Worship When You Gather Together

COVENANTS HAVE REGULATIONS OF WORSHIP

“Now even the first covenant [the Law of Moses] had regulations of divine worship...” (He 9:1), found in the Old Testament.

Likewise the New Covenant or agreement in Jesus that God Himself has drawn up has divine regulations of worship. They are found in the New Testament. Below, you will study them in some detail. In Lesson 2, you studied the fact that the Law of Moses is like a canceled bank check or note. It is not to be used, in this case, in regards to regulations for worshiping God. So this lesson will fittingly declare to you only the divine regulations of worship through Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.

THE DIVINE REGULATIONS OF CHRISTIAN WORSHIP

God permits and He restricts. He breaks down walls, and yet He establishes boundaries. He encourages and he discourages. There is no limit to some of the things of God, but there are limitations that He has placed upon all of us that we must follow when we gather. Now each saved person is instructed in the Bible to consider how to minister to God’s people (1 Cor 14:26; He 6:9-11, 10:24). But observe that in the same section of Scripture which encourages each one to contribute when assembled for church (1 Cor 14:26), it also sets forth the divine regulations to be followed by each one in that gathering of disciples. Meditate on these things as you read the whole context in which they were placed.
